Beyond the historical human condition, thanksgiving be to God, being the Creator, literary perspective on, "Bread as the Symbol of Human Needs."

"When he is brought back by the police, the Bishop exclaims that Valjean forgot to take the silver candlesticks as well. He pretends that the silver was a gift to Valjean so that the policemen will let him go. The candlesticks thus symbolize the mercy shown to Valjean by the Bishop, as well as humility and goodness in the Bishop’s lack of interest in beautiful possessions and wealth. The candlesticks also reappear at various moments throughout the novel, as Valjean keeps them close to him as a reminder of the man and the act that began his transformation. That he nearly throws them into the fire at one point reveals just how closely Valjean equates the candlesticks with the Bishop’s system of morality and mercy—by keeping them rather than throwing them out, Valjean recommits himself to the new path he’s chosen."

In this regard there is a list of characters of the play, "Les Misérables," by Victor Hugo,
at "Sparks Notes," ref link online, (
Les Misérables: Character List | SparkNotes ).
In that article, this quote, as follows,

"Jean Valjean

Cosette’s adopted father. Valjean is an ex-convict who leaves behind a life of hatred and deceit and makes his fortune with his innovative industrial techniques. He finds fulfillment in loving his adopted daughter and helping people who are in difficult situations, even when it means risking his own life and welfare. Valjean adopts pseudonyms to evade the police and combines a convict’s street smarts with his newfound idealism and compassion. His whole life is a quest for redemption, and he ultimately finds bliss on his deathbed."
This relates in not quite complete parallel to "Pip" had a benefactor, in the start of the story, "_Great Expectations_," a rough escaped prisoner who turned "Pip" upside down and got a piece of bread. In that a library has a plethora of information in the natural languages, this online internet venue can expedite looking up information of had been familiar in the first place, a quote from "_Great Expectations_," ,is as follows,
"'Pip, sir.'
"Once more," said the man, staring at me. "Give it mouth!"
      "Pip. Pip, sir."
"Show us where you live," said the man. "Pint out the place!"
I pointed to where our village lay, on the flat in-shore among the alder-trees and pollards, a mile or more from the church.
The man, after looking at me for a moment, turned me upside down, and emptied my pockets. There was nothing in them but a piece of bread.'" - online ref link, ( Charles Dickens – Great Expectations (Chap. 1) | Genius ).
"The convict Jean Valjean is released from a French prison after serving nineteen years for stealing a loaf of bread and for subsequent attempts to escape from prison." - onlne ref link, ( https://www.sparknotes.com/lit/lesmis/summary/ ).

In life I've taken to the phrase, lifelong sojourn of daily life,
in that the Creator being God is the life-giver, and benevolent Sovereign over Heaven and earth, in the context of Scriptural texts in natural language of each Testament of The Holy Bible, God is the Grantor of the Passover, - and that is in The Old Testament.  God in the Scriptural texts of The New Testament did send to historical northern Israel in Galilee of nations, the long expected Messiah Jesus of Nazareth, Name thereof.  God in benevolence by the logic of only being impartial has Sovereignty over each Testament of The Holy Bible.  This needs to be logically true in that true ethical concern from God's impartiality has the aesthetics of Divine Predestination of God has the impartial goodwill from God influence on me, one human being person, by *perspective, God blessed to have the image and *likeness* of God in the needed help from Eternal benevolent God, the Creator, thank God.  Regardless of who in humanity in the Biblical history of from the Garden of Eden until now, of by God, for the benevolent influence of the goodwill God has for humanity, agreed to something of God in that, ref. Deut. 8:3, in the Scriptural text tells that humanity does not live by bread only, but by every Word from the mouth of God.  God did Send, Jesus of Nazareth, to historical northern Israel in Galilee of nations, called, the "Savior," and He rebuked the "devil," the spiritual force of pretense, He crushed the head of the proverbial "serpent," as God had promised to Send someone to do just that.  Jesus told that the penned Scriptural text, in regard to the example of God's Own Word, ref Deut. 8:3, that humanity does not live by bread only, but by every Word from the mouth of God. At the Last Discourse, the Holy One of Israel, in God Sent to Galilee of nations, celebrated on the 5th yom *evening* toward the *morning* of the 6th yom, of in English the 5th day, Thursday evening, toward the *morning* of the 6th day, in that the 6th day is called, "Good Friday, - however;-
the evening and the morning in God's impartial perspective, starts the day,
ie, in Genesis, the eveing and the morning motif.  That evening, the never sinned, High Priest of the Last Discourse that very day, shed His precious blood in unearned suffering, temporarily lower in station that the Holy Angels of Heaven, in the bitter agony in the Garden of Gethsemane, from His pours.  Of course, God did not give Command to murder Him, Name thereof, Jesus of Nazareth, or the crowd of the status quo of the societal trends, crying out, crucify him, let his blood be on us and our generations - yikes, duped into the self expectations on God's Sent long expected Messiah, as in the Psalms, He is of God, then let Him Save Himself.  This Biblical *perspective in natural language, of I speak English, is only by Inspiration of the Holy Spirit, learned far from only by directly help needed from God, the oils of gladness favor rests goodwill from God blessings, thanksgiving be to God, because no one is here under the vault of the skies in a idiomatic *vacuum* obviously. Those who hold an office, or held an office, are prophets and prophetesses or elders of the people, and I only convey that I have learned.  God is the teacher of all, according to Jesus of Nazareth, the God Sent Messiah.  In Hebrews 4, He never had sinning, relates to humanity, the High Priest, and God's Sent only Divine Mediator between God and humanity.  In Revelation 19:10, God has the Spirit of prophesy by ever Word from the mouth of God, ref Duet 8:3, and the Spirit of prophesy is the *testimony* of Jesus.

God's goodwill of lovingkindness is everlasting, thank God, ref Psalm 118, in that God is right in each and everything directly to me, on my lifelong sojourn of daily life, in that God has for and to me, of the Holy Spirit, Who, Jesus of Nazareth called the Helper, hears from God and leads in all truth from God of goodwill in the impartiality of God's benevolence and goodness from God influence, - God's Sovereignty of Divine Predestination directly to me in my human spirit and body, has my stewardship of myself, and that is from God being the Creator, universal to each human being person is someone by Biblical *perspective has God's blessing of image and *likeness of God the Creator is the life-giver.

It can be said of "Pip's" college friend, that he had been a gentleman.  And it can be said of, "Fantine," who petitioned for her daughter's care that she had been a gentewoman.

In relation of "prophets" and "prophetesses" and men elders of the people, and woman elders of the people, please consider that God's Sent long expected Messiah Jesus of Nazareth, and in regard to Ezekiel 13, and Jeremiah 6, - the impartiality from God is also in that, Jesus told, judge not lest ye be judged, condemn not lest ye be condemned, in equal measure that ye do judge, ye shall be judged, - and be merciful and your Heavenly Father is merciful, thereby;- The goodwill from God has the needed help from God, because only God has the mercy of Eternal God, God being the Creator, the life-giver.
Who decides giving in the impartiality of Divine Predestination from God,
 obviously, only God, thank God!

God having the Hand in the impartial benevolence from God, here under the vault of the skies there are the seas and the dry lands of earth, the world, and God has the hereafter that God provides subsequent to the last breath of life.  Thank God! The goodwill from God is direct to each of us in humantiy.

In thankfulness, thank you again for your consideration, in that God's blessings for the "inner life," has strength from God in the just peacefulness in restfulness directly from God. 🕊
